Sabine Lisicki cruises into semis in Wimbledon


There are stuns then after that there are stuns. What happened to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the first week here was pretty terrific; what happened on Monday to Serena Williams was absolutely unimaginable. Five times the champion and on a winning streak of 34 matches,




 the American was an overpowering favourite to win the title for a sixth time, all the more so after the early passageways of Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka. Be that as it may having headed 3-0 and 4-2 in the last set, she slipped out of the Championships, demolished 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 by Germany's Sabine Lisicki.

It was a splendid exhibition from Lisicki, a semi-finalist here in 2010, taking care of business on grass and a player who on her day could be a match for anybody. She made an extraordinary showing of keeping Williams cockeyed and wrong-balance the American.
